Tuscany: famous for its Chianti wines, the magnificent historic art towns of Florence, Sienna, Arezzo, San Gimignano, Cortona, Lucca and Pisa, and for its innumerable castles, fortified abbeys and villages, and antique villas and farmhouses. Tuscany has other important attractions as a holiday destination: tranquility; English and Italian-style gardens (see Gardens of Tuscany for gardens outside of Florence); numerous marked walking paths through vineyards, olive orchards and forests, as well as along unsealed country roads; bicycling routes to suit every taste. Tuscany holiday homes provide an economical and hugely enjoyable way to experience all that Tuscany has to offer. Staying in a self-catering country villa, farm house or farm apartment, often with a swimming pool, is often less expensive that staying in a hotel and provides a much more immediate Tuscan experience.
